The State of the Union 2011
January 26, 2011
In his recent State of the Union address President Obama emphasized just how crucial high-quality infrastructure is for the United States. Historically American infrastructure has been among the worlds finest. Despite this, American engineers have recently given the nation’s infrastructure system a grade of a “D.”
The quality of American infrastructure is relevant now more than ever because the efficient movement of people and goods gives the American economy a significant advantage over global competitors. In order to address the infrastructure dilemma President Obama put forth a 25 year plan to give 80 percent of Americans access to high speed rail. Previously, the President backed up his plan with $8 billion in direct grants to 31 states to finance high speed rail development and encourages private investment as well.
The President’s pledge to invest in effective, clean, and cost efficient infrastructure such as high speed rail only stands to benefit America.
